Terms of Use

Last updated: 27 September 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Plainr ("the app"), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you don’t agree, don’t use the app.

Not Medical Advice

Plainr provides informational content about food processing and ingredients for educational purposes only. It is not a medical device, does not diagnose or treat any condition, and is not a substitute for professional medical or nutritional advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before making decisions based on information in this app, especially if you have allergies, a medical condition, or are pregnant or nursing.

Accuracy of Information

Product and ingredient data comes from third-party sources (Open Food Facts, USDA FoodData Central) and AI-assisted text extraction and translation, which may occasionally be incomplete, outdated, or inaccurate. We make reasonable efforts to ensure accuracy but do not guarantee it. Always check the physical product label if a decision matters (e.g., allergies).

A processing score is our own assessment of how processed a product is, based on the ingredient list we were able to read. Where we could not verify that list, the app says so on the score itself rather than hiding it. Nutrition estimated from a photo of a meal is labelled as an estimate and is less accurate than a barcode scan.

Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use Plainr. By using the app, you confirm you meet this requirement.

5. Your Account

  • Creating an account requires accurate information. You can sign up with an email address and password, or with your Google account.
  • You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.
  • You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account. It takes effect immediately and cannot be undone.

6. Subscriptions — not active in this version

This version of Plainr does not sell anything. It contains no in-app purchase, takes no payment, and does not charge you. Screens that describe a free trial or a subscription plan are a preview of a feature that is not switched on: nothing you tap in them starts a purchase or a billing period, and no subscription is active on your account.

If paid subscriptions are introduced in a later version, they will be billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play at the price shown before purchase, will be renewed and cancelled through your Apple or Google account settings rather than through this app, and refunds will be handled under Apple’s and Google’s own policies. These terms will be updated before that happens.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code or credentials from the app
  • Use the app for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to disrupt or overload our infrastructure
  • Misuse the gamification systems (e.g., automated or fraudulent activity to farm XP, streaks, badges, or league standing)

8. Intellectual Property and Data Licences

The app’s design, branding, and original content are owned by us. Product and ingredient data from third-party sources remains subject to those sources’ own licences.

Open Food Facts data is made available under the Open Database License (ODbL) v1.0: https://opendatacommons.org/licenses/odbl/1-0/. USDA FoodData Central is a public dataset published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Both are credited in the app under Settings → Data sources.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

The app is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including decisions made based on inaccurate or incomplete data.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms. You may delete your account at any time from Settings.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

13. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Poland. If you use the app as a consumer resident in the European Union, this does not deprive you of the protection afforded by the mandatory consumer-protection rules of the country in which you live, and you may bring proceedings in the courts of that country.
